Makar Sankranti 2023: What Sweets Are Eaten Around India?

Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Pongal, whatever you call it in your home, it means a time for celebration!  And what Indian celebration is complete without sweets! Here are some regional favourites from around India you should be indulging in.

Maharashtra

Til Gud Laddoos are a favourite for the season and are shared as a gesture of goodwill among friends and neighbours.

West Bengal

Patishapta are a Bengali specialty for this time. These rice flour pancakes are stuffed with coconut, jaggery or khoya.

Rajasthan

Hard and crunchy and studded with sesame seeds, Rewari are a specialty in the North around Lohri.

Odisha

Made with freshly harvested rice, bananas, fruits and other goodies, Makara Chaula is an Odia delicacy.
