Makar Sankranti 2023: Try These Traditional Sweet Foods

Makar Sankranti is celebrated mainly by the North Indians. It marks the evidence of longer days with ample sunshine for crops, especially in a country like India. Traditional foods are the main attraction of this festival. People prepare for these days with special sweets and mithais. 

Til Ladoo

A staple food for Makar Sankranti, these ladoos are made with sesame seeds and jaggery and are a treat to our souls. 

Puran Poli

It is a Maharashtrian delicacy. It is a sweet flatbread stuffed with sweet and crumbly moong-based filling.

Makara Chaula

It is a popular Odia dish made with harvested rice, jaggery, milk, chhena, banana, and sugarcane. It is first offered to God, then distributed to people.

Payesh

Payesh is a thickened rice and milk pudding with aromatic flavours. It is sweetened with date palm jaggery or khejur gur, only available during winter.
