Mahashivratri is an auspicious celebration of Lord Shiva tying the knot with Goddess Parvati. On this special day, devotees and priests prepare special dishes to please Lord Shiva. Before they break their fast, devotees prepare a bhog thali comprising all favourites of God. Here is everything you should include in it too.
Bael leaves are the favourites of Lord Shiva. They are sacred leaves that are kept in the thali along with water, incense sticks, and flowers.
The thali presented to Lord Shiva should contain savoury dishes like potato curry and vrat pakoras.
In many temples, people offer bhang to Lord Shiva. It is mixed in thandai, a milk-based sweet and spicy beverage.
The bhog thali also contains rice, usually the grains are flavoured. In most parts of South India, devotees offer tamarind rice and pongal.
As a part of special offerings, dairy products are all added to the bhog thali. Many people add panchamrit, yoghurt, and buttermilk to the plate.
While you are arranging the thali, don’t forget to add carbs to it by adding puri or roti. They gel well with savoury curry.
On Mahashivratri, Lord Shiva is also offered traditional sweets like peda, pudding, halwa, and fruits, including apples, bananas, oranges, etc.
