One of the biggest festivals of the Hindu calendar is here and to mark this occasion, many devotees observe fast to offer their prayers to God Shiva. There are many rituals when it comes to fasting and that also includes what to consume when you fast. So, here are beverages that you are allowed to drink along with the ones that you are not if you are fasting.

To Drink: Buttermilk

This light drink can be enjoyed while fasting since it is made with yoghurt. It is delicious, creamy, and low in calories.

Makhana Smoothie

High in protein, combining makhana with milk to make a smoothie is a great way to keep yourself satiated.

Coconut Water

Hydrate yourself with a fresh glass of coconut water as it will provide you with essential electrolytes that you will need while fasting.

Herbal Teas

Hydrate yourself with caffeine-free drinks like herbal teas such as chamomile tea, lavender tea, lemongrass tea, and more.

To Not Drink: Packaged Fruit Juices

Make sure to avoid packaged fruit juices as they may contain sodium to improve their flavour.

Beer

Made by fermenting barley, wheat or corn beer is an alcoholic drink that is forbidden to consume while fasting.

Oats Smoothie

Since oats are whole grains, make sure you avoid having smoothies that contain oats as one of their ingredients.

Caffeinated Drinks

Caffeinated drinks like coffee and sodas should be avoided as they can make you dehydrated.
