Hailing from Nagpur Maharashtra, Tarri poha is a delectable breakfast dish that combines fluffy flattened rice with a spicy chickpea curry. This easy Tarri poha will make your mornings a nutritious and fulfilling one. Take a look at how to make it:
2 cups flattened rice (poha) 1 onion, finely chopped 1 green chilli, chopped 1/4 cup peanuts 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder Salt to taste Fresh coriander, chopped Lemon wedges
1 cup black chickpeas (kala chana), soaked overnight 1 large onion, chopped 2 tomatoes, chopped 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste 2 teaspoons red chilli powder 1 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon garam masala 1 teaspoon cumin seeds Salt to taste Fresh coriander, chopped
Rinse the poha under cold water and drain. Set aside.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, and let them splutter. Add peanuts, sauté until golden. Add onions, green chillies, and sauté until onions are translucent. Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
Add the rinsed poha, mix gently. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander and lemon wedges.
Meanwhile, pressure cook the soaked chickpeas until tender.
In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Add onions, sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste, tomatoes, and cook until mushy. Add chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
Add cooked chickpeas with some water to form a curry. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Garnish with coriander.
Serve a portion of poha topped with hot tarri, and garnish with coriander and lemon wedges for a perfect breakfast
