This unique take on the traditional samosa recipe is a speciality of Maharashtrian cuisine that uses poha in place of potato. Here's an easy recipe to prepare at home.
For the filling: 1 cup poha 2-3 potatoes 1 small onion 1-2 green chillies 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon garam masala 1/2 teaspoon sugar 1 tablespoon of lemon juice 1/4 cup roasted peanuts Salt to taste Chopped coriander leaves 2 tablespoons of oil
For the dough: 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons oil or ghee Salt to taste Water as needed
Mix flour, salt, and oil or ghee. Add water, and knead into a firm dough. Rest for 30 minutes.
Soften the poha by rinsing. Sauté mustard and cumin seeds in oil. Add onion, chillies, spices, potatoes, poha, sugar, lemon juice, peanuts, and salt. Cook and cool.
Roll the dough into thin rounds and cut in half. Form cones, fill with poha mixture, and seal edges.
Deep-fry until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
