Maharashtrian Kanda Zunka is a delicious and traditional dish made with besan (gram flour) and onions. It's a popular side dish that pairs well with bhakri or chapati.
2 cups finely chopped onions 1 cup besan 2 tbsp oil 1 tsp mustard seeds 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp red chilli powder 1 tsp cumin-coriander powder Salt to taste 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped 2-3 garlic cloves, minced A pinch of asafoetida 2 cups water Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and green chillies. Sauté for a minute.
Add onions and minced garlic. Cook until onions turn translucent.
In a separate bowl, mix besan with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin-coriander powder, and salt.
Add the besan mixture to the pan and sauté until it turns golden brown and releases a nutty aroma.
Add water and mix into a smooth paste. Cook until the mixture thickens and reaches a porridge-like consistency.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with bhakri or chapati. Enjoy the authentic taste of Maharashtrian Kanda Zunka!
