Podi is a flavourful condiment made of lentils, seeds and spices, since it is eaten with idli, the masala powder is also known as idli podi. Here is the recipe.
In a heavy bottomed pan add sesame seeds and dry roast till they turn golden brown. Keep aside.
Add 2 tsp oil and fry dried red chilli till they puff up.
Then add curry leaves and continue to sauté till they turn crisp. Keep aside and allow to cool.
Add a tsp more oil and sauté chana dal and urad dal till they turn golden brown.
Transfer to a blender and blend to coarse powder and store it in an airtight container.
