From moong dal halwa to til chikki and pinni, make these traditional sweets for Lohri this year and relish the flavour of the winter season.
Small bites made of jaggery and til, rewri is a delicious bite-sized treat that is often dunked in the bonfire set up for Lohri, along with popcorn and peanuts.
Chikki, for the unversed, is a crunchy sweet brittle made with sesame seeds and melted jaggery. This helps to stick it together and gives it a candy-like texture.
Apart from til, jaggery is also a commonly-consumed winter treat. The healthy sweetener is crushed and added to a milky concoction and is served as gur ki kheer.
These fudgy ladoo-like treats are a heavenly combination of ghee and nuts. This quintessential winter treat is a classic in Punjabi households.
A classic winter dessert, the halwa aka pudding is made with moong dal, sautéed in ghee for long hours before it attains the desired texture. Top with nuts and enjoy.
