Kurkhut Recipe: Popular Red Ant Chutney From Jharkhand's Tribes

The Tribes of Jharkhand famously cook red ant chutney, also known as Khurkhut, in the forests. Tribes living in close proximity to forest forage these ants to make this nutritious as well as delicious side dish. It is a great delicacy that can be a new experience for people who wish to try.

Ingredients

1 cup red ants and their eggs 4-5 green chilies 4-5 cloves of garlic 1-inch piece of ginger 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon mustard oil 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Step 1

Collect approximately 1 cup of red ants and their eggs. Handle with care to avoid bites and wash them clean.

Step 2

To a stone grinder, add 4-5 green chilies, 4-5 cloves of garlic, and a 1-inch piece of ginger with ants to the grinder to make a paste.

Step 3

Add 1 teaspoon of salt, mustard oil, and lemon juice for a tangy taste. Mix and serve.
