1 cup heavy cream 1 cup whole milk 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 large egg yolk
Whisk together heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and vanilla extract.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it is hot but not boiling.
Whisk the egg yolk. Slowly pour a small amount of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk, whisking constantly to temper it.
Combine with milk mixture and chill.
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours, or overnight, before serving.
