Popularly known as chakka upperi – these crunchy chips made using the bulbs of ripe jackfruit are a sweet and salty tea time treat. Retaining its meaty and slightly chewy texture, make a large batch of these chips to stock up for the weeks ahead.
250 grams ripe jackfruit, deseeded ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder ½ teaspoon red chilli powder Salt, to taste Oil, for deep-frying
Cut the jackfruit into thin strips and sprinkle generously with turmeric powder.
Heat the oil in a pan and fry the jackfruit strips in batches, until golden fried and crunchy.
Transfer the chips to an absorbent paper towel while you combine the red chilli powder and salt.
Sprinkle the seasoning on the chips while still warm and toss thoroughly to evenly distribute it.
Cool completely before storing in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks.
