Sattu is a powder of roasted chana or Bengal gram. It has a high quantity of protein and is believed to regulate the temperature of the body, making it a perfect ingredient to make a summer drink. With the rising mercury, here is how to make sattu sharbat and avoid heat waves affecting your health.
2 tablespoons sattu (roasted gram flour) 1/4 teaspoon black salt (kala namak) Handful of chopped mint leaves 2-3 tablespoons jaggery or sugar to taste Juice of 1 lemon or lime (optional) Ice cubes (optional) 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder Chilled water or soda water 2 cups cold water
Take a bowl and mix sattu, roasted cumin powder, chopped mint leaves, jagger, and black salt.
Add water gradually while ensuring no lumps form in the mixture. You can add lemon or tamarind juice for a tangy flavour.
Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning. Strain it through a sieve to remove any impurities or lumps.
Add the delicious mixture in a pitcher and garnish it with mint leaves and add lemon slices.
Refrigerate the mixture for a couple of hours before serving.
Add ice to glasses, pour the sattu sharbat, and enjoy a refreshing drink in summer.
