Madua

Madua, also known as ragi or finger millet, is used to make rotis, laddoos, halwa and puris during the Jititya Vrat.

Noni Saag

Also known as wild purslane, this green leafy vegetable is used to make a simple no onion-no garlic saag on Jitiya.

Kusi Kerao

These local dried green peas are soaked overnight to cook dal and dry curries for Jitiya festival in Bihar.

Poro Saag

Also known as Malabar spinach, this saag is mixed with kusi kerao to make a delicious dry dish for Jitiya.

Satputiya

A small gourd similar to snake gourd, satputiya is used to make a simple curry to be savoured during Jitiya.

Pirukiya

This Bihari version of gujiya is made with a wheat flour shell, coconut-jaggery stuffing and deep-fried to perfection.

These traditional wheat flour cookies from Bihar are prepared on all festive occasions, including Chhath and Jitiya.
