Janmashtami marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and this year the festival will fall on September 6 and 7. Several traditional dishes are prepared during this festival which are offered to Lord Krishna and then distributed among the devotees. One of such dishes is Panjiri. It is a popular North Indian dry-sweet recipe. Tap to know the recipe here:

1 ½ cup ground coriander seeds 1 cup desiccated coconut ¼ cup raisins 3 tsp melon seeds 5 tbsp ghee ½ cup powdered sugar 1 cup makhana ¼ cup almonds 1 tsp powdered green cardamom

Take a pan and add ghee. Dry roast 1 cup makhana, transfer to a plate.

In the same pan, add more ghee. Roast nuts and keep them aside.

Repeat the process with 1 cup desiccated coconut and toss it nicely.

In the same pan, cook coriander powder for 10-12 minutes on low flame. Keep stirring till the powder turns brown and aromatic.

Take a blender and grind coconut, green cardamom, makhana, and coriander powder into a coarse mixture.

Transfer it to the bowl and mix with dry fruits and nuts, makhana and sugar. Add tulsi leavs and serve as a bhog.
