Makhan mishri is a traditional Indian sweet made with clarified butter (ghee) and rock sugar (mishri), which was favoured by Lord Krishna himself. As Janmashtami draws nearer, these deserts can serve as a great festive treat.
1 cup ghee (clarified butter) 1 cup rock sugar (mishri) 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon saffron strands 1/4 cup chopped almonds or pistachios
Heat the ghee over low heat until it melts completely. Add the crushed rock sugar to the melted ghee and stir continuously.
Cook the mixture until it thickens and changes colour to a golden brown.
Stir in the cardamom powder, chopped nuts and saffron strands.
Pour the mixture into a greased mould. Once cooled, cut the makhan mishri into desired shapes and serve.
