On August 26, 2024, devotees will be indulging in preparing a feast for Lord Krishna while decorating their home and home temple for Janmashtami. Among several delights, panjiri is a crucial part of bhog. Here is how it is made.
½ cup powdered sugar 1 cup wheat flour ¼ cup cashews ½ cup ghee ¼ cup pistachios 2 tbsp raisins 1 tbsp edible gum 2 tbsp desiccated coconut ¼ cup almonds ½ tsp cardamom powder
Dry roast dry fruits of your choice in a heavy-bottom pan until they release their nutty aroma.
Deep-fry edible gum until it puffs up and turns golden brown indicating you need to turn off the flame.
Melt the ghee in the kadhai and roast atta until your entire kitchen is filled with its earthy scent.
Add crushed gond, dry fruits, cardamom, and raisins to roasted wheat flour.
Turn off the flame and add powdered sugar to the mixture. Let the panjiri rest.
Add grated coconut to the mix and keep aside panjiri for bhog.
