Makhan Mishri is a simple yet divine dish that is often associated with Lord Krishna, who is known for his love of makhan (butter). This traditional offering combines freshly churned butter with mishri (sugar crystals) and is a popular prasad during Janmashtami.

Ingredients

1 cup fresh white butter (makhan) 2-3 tablespoons mishri (sugar crystals or rock sugar)

Step 1

If you are using store-bought white butter, you can proceed directly. However, for an authentic touch, use homemade white butter made from cow’s milk.

Step 2

Start by churning fresh cream (malai) using a churner or hand blender until the butter separates from the buttermilk.

Step 3

Collect the butter in a bowl and rinse it with cold water to remove any remaining buttermilk.

Step 4

Place the fresh butter in a clean bowl. Add the mishri to the butter. You can adjust the amount of mishri according to your taste preference.

Step 5

Gently mix the mishri into the butter until the sugar crystals are evenly distributed throughout.

Step 6

Makhan Mishri is ready to be offered as prasad or enjoyed as a sweet treat. Serve it fresh and at room temperature.
