Jaljeera: Beat The Heat With A Refreshing Glass Of This Homemade Drink

Known to be an excellent digestive, jaljeera or the  spiced cumin-based drink is hydrating and flavoursome. Add some fresh mint or lemon juice to enhance the flavour, and enjoy before or after a meal.

INGREDIENTS [FOR MASALA]

2 teaspoons cumin seeds 1 teaspoon amchur powder 1 teaspoon dried mint powder ½ teaspoon kala namak ½ teaspoon ginger powder ½ teaspoon black pepper powder

INGREDIENTS [FOR JALJEERA]

1 cup water Juice of ½ lemon 1 teaspoon grated ginger 4-5 mint leaves Salt, to taste

STEP 1

Toast the cumin seeds in a dry pan until fragrant and grind to a fine powder with the remaining ingredients for the masala.

STEP 2

Add a teaspoon of the spice blend to a glass along with the ginger, lemon juice. salt and mint leaves.

STEP 3

Stir using a spoon before adding ice cubes and topping up with water. Serve chilled.
