Jackfruit Payasam is a delicious dessert that originates from South India. It is made using ripe jackfruit, coconut milk, jaggery, and flavored with cardamom powder. Here's a simple recipe to make this mouth-watering dessert at home
1 cup ripe jackfruit, chopped 1 cup coconut milk ½ cup jaggery, grated 2 cups water 2 tbsp ghee 1 tbsp rice flour 1 tsp cardamom powder A handful of cashew nuts and raisins
In a pan, add the chopped jackfruit and 1 cup of water. Cook for about 10 minutes or until the jackfruit is soft then blend it into a smooth paste.
In the same pan, add 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Add the grated jaggery to the boiling water and stir until it dissolves.
Now add the jackfruit puree to the jaggery syrup and stir well.
In a separate pan, heat ghee and roast the cashew nuts and raisins until golden brown. Keep it aside.
In a small bowl, mix the rice flour with a little water to form a smooth paste. Add this paste to the jackfruit and jaggery mixture and stir well.
Now add the coconut milk and stir well. Let it cook for about 5-10 minutes on medium heat until the payasam thickens to your desired consistency.
Add cardamom powder and mix well. Finally, add the roasted cashews and raisins and mix well. Serve warm or cold.
