Tapioca is a popular starch derived from the cassava root. It is widely popular as a gluten-free option. But is it good for weight loss? The short answer is no as a starchy root vegetable cannot be helpful for you in your weight loss journey. Here are some reasons why.

Since Tapioca is basically a type of starch, it has a very high-calorie content. One cup of Tapioca contains more than 500 calories. Consuming food with more calories will be quite the opposite while going for a weight loss diet.

Even though Tapioca is used as a grain in a gluten-free diet, unlike the others, it does not have high fibre content. Thus, it does not contribute to increasing metabolism, which is something you wouldn’t want while trying to lose weight.

Despite the fact that Tapioca boosts the energy level of the body, it does not contain the essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants as its other grain counterparts.

Since Tapioca is obtained by processing the roots of cassava, the major nutrients are left behind. All that is left is carbohydrates which cause weight gain.

Tapioca-based dishes like puddings and boba teas often contain added sugars and fats, increasing their calorie content. These treats are tasty but not filling which can hinder your weight loss routine.

Lastly, even though Tapioca is not a good option for losing weight, it still is an invaluable gluten-free grain for people with allergies and food restrictions. So, consider these pointers before adding it to your diet.
