Since times immemorial, there have been several classic cocktails that have existed till date just like Bloody Mary. However, it is the backstory that’s more intriguing.
A classic concoction made of vodka and tomato juice, these are the two undisputable and never-changing ingredients of this cocktail.
As dreadful as the name may sound, it is said that the mix was developed as a way to cure alcoholic hangovers initially but there are several theories to contest it.
Some say it was named after Queen Mary I of England while others suggest that it picked the name from a waitress at Bucket of Blood in Chicago called Mary.
In 1921, a bartender and a customer came up with the name after he enjoyed a special boozy drink. It made him feel that he met his bae, Mary in a cabaret called Bucket of Blood, leading to Bloody Mary.
Apart from vodka and tomato juice, you’ll find people adding horseradish, Tobasco sauce, salt and pepper and several other ingredients to the mix.
Blood Mary usually comes in a flared pint, a highball glass or a hurricane glass. In fact, it can feature in anything that keeps the ice floating like beer steins or wine glass..
