For coffee enthusiasts, grabbing a steaming cup of joe the morning after a night of binge-drinking can feel like the perfect way to beat a hangover. But here's why coffee might not be the perfect hangover cure you thought it was.
Coffee is extremely high in caffeine. If had black without sugar, coffee can induce more dehydration which will hardly get rid of the hangover.
Caffeine compounds in the coffee will intensify a hangover headache because it narrows blood vessels increasing blood pressure. This will only worsen the pounding in your head.
Coffee is a diuretic which means that it will make you go to the washroom quite often. This will empty the body of water, induce dehydration and turn a mild hangover into a full-blown headache.
Recent studies have indicated that instead of treating a hangover, coffee simply masks the effects of alcohol doing little to influence how the liver processes the liquor.
Coffee cannot sober up the body the morning after, in fact, the slight drunkeness accompanied by a shot of caffeine might just make you more jittery and hyper.
