It is prepared from rice and can aid in losing weight if consumed in moderation due to its ability to make you full. Idli with its ingredients also boasts an impressive nutritional profile. Here's a quick recipe for you to try.
1 cup idli rice 1/2 cup urad dal Salt to taste Water for soaking and grinding
Soak rice and urad dal separately for 4-6 hours.
Grind urad dal into a smooth batter, then grind rice into a slightly coarse texture.
Combine both batters, add salt, and ferment overnight.
Grease idli moulds, pour batter, and steam for 10-12 minutes.
Serve warm with chutney or sambar.
A medium-sized idli contains around 70-80 calories while also being low on fat. It doesn't need any butter or oil in its preparation and has a decent amount of protein. Therefore, if consumed in moderation, idli could be a great addition to your diet to shed those kilos.
