When the summer heat becomes intolerable, we turn to foods that promise to chill and soothe us. You might be shocked that certain "cooling" foods increase body heat. That's right! Ayurvedic doctor Dr Vara Yanamandra recently addressed these meals to educate. Here are 5 "cool" foods that raise the internal temperature.
Ice cream slows digestion and dampens Agni, which can contribute to ama buildup. This may induce stomach upset, lethargy, and heaviness.
According to Ayurveda, curd or yoghurt can cause blockages and is called "Abhishyandi." Yoghurt may produce stomach, flatulence, and a lethargic mood in summer due to low agni.
Tomatoes exacerbate Pitta dosha, raising body temperature. In the heat, consuming too many Pitta foods like tomatoes can increase acid reflux, heartburn, skin rashes, and inflammation.
In Pitta-dominated persons, too much lemon in summer can aggravate Pitta and produce imbalances like heartburn, acidity, and skin issues.
Ayurveda says ice water is terrible for you, even on a hot summer day. Cold water quells the digestive fire and makes nutritional absorption difficult.
