Iceberg lettuce is a crisp and refreshing addition to salads, but it can wilt quickly if not stored properly. Here are five tips to keep your iceberg lettuce fresh for longer.
Start by discarding any outer leaves that are wilted or damaged. This prevents the decay from spreading to the rest of the lettuce.
Moisture is the enemy of fresh lettuce. Pat the lettuce dry with paper towels after washing and before storing to avoid wilting.
Wrap the lettuce in dry paper towels, which will absorb any excess moisture, and then place it in a plastic bag or airtight container.
Place the wrapped lettuce in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator, which is designed to maintain optimal humidity levels for fresh produce.
Keep the lettuce whole until you're ready to use it, as cutting accelerates wilting and browning.
