Obbattu, also known as Holige or Puran Poli, is a popular South Indian sweet flatbread stuffed with a delicious filling. Here's a simple recipe to make this festive treat.
1 cup chana dal (split chickpeas) 1 cup jaggery 1 tsp cardamom powder 1½ cups all-purpose flour ¼ tsp turmeric powder 2 tbsp oil A pinch of salt Water as needed Ghee for cooking
Mix all-purpose flour, turmeric, salt, and oil. Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
Cook chana dal until soft, then drain and mash. Add jaggery and cook until it melts and thickens. Mix in cardamom powder and let it cool.
Divide the dough and filling into equal portions. Roll out the dough, place the filling in the center, and fold the edges. Roll out gently.
Heat a tawa, cook the obbattu on both sides with ghee until golden brown. Serve warm.
