A half-fried egg is a simple pleasure, with creamy yolk, slightly crispy edges and a tender white. Getting this just right requires a few tricks to balance texture and flavour. Here is a quick guide to making your perfect half-fried egg.
Fresh eggs hold their shape better, ensuring a neat, round fried egg with a rich yolk.
A non-stick pan or a well-seasoned skillet helps prevent sticking and makes flipping easier.
Keep the heat on low to medium. Too high, and the egg will cook unevenly, with burnt edges and an undercooked yolk.
Just a teaspoon of oil or butter enhances flavour and ensures the egg doesn’t stick to the pan.
Crack the egg gently to avoid breaking the yolk. You can do this by cracking it on a flat surface.
For a perfectly set white and creamy yolk, cover the pan with a lid for a few seconds.
Sprinkle salt and pepper once cooked to prevent the seasoning from spreading unevenly across the egg.
