Can you imagine making sambar without dal? Well! You can prepare a tangy batch of the South Indian staple that accompanies other traditional recipes like idli, uttapam, vada, and dosa. Here is the recipe you can follow.
3 tomatoes 2 onions ½ tsp sambar masala ½ tsp saunf, hing ½ tsp chilli powder 1 tsp mustard seeds, turmeric 2-3 tbsp oil 2 red chillies 1 tbsp chopped coriander 7-8 curry leaves Salt to taste 6-7 garlic cloves 2 tbsp besan
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Saute mustard seeds, curry leaves, turmeric, and garlic.
Add onions and tomatoes. Cook them until the tomatoes are mushy.
Add all the spice powders and pour some water into the cooker.
Pressure-cook the ingredients for a whistle.
Mash the ingredients and temper the sambar with oil, mustard seeds, red chillies, hing, and curry leaves.
Add more water to adjust the consistency and serve with idli or rice.
