How To Make One Pot Of Masala Rice: A Simple And Delicious Recipe

Masala Rice is a one-pot recipe made with rice, vegetables and spices. Serve it with plain yoghurt or raita for a comforting meal. Here’s how to make this one-pot masala rice:

Ingredients

1 cup basmati rice 1 tsp oil 1 tsp cumin seeds 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 cinnamon stick 2-3 green cardamoms 1-2 cloves 1 bay leaf ½ onion 1 tsp ginger garlic paste ½ tomato 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder ½ tsp turmeric powder 1 tsp coriander powder ½ tsp garam masala powder ½ tsp cumin powder salt to taste 1 tsp lime juice Coriander leaves

Step 1

Rinse the rice and soak it in water for 20-30 minutes. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cinnamon sticks, green cardamoms, cloves and bay leaf.

Step 3

Add onions and sauté until they are translucent, stirring frequently.

Step 4

Add ginger garlic paste, sauté for another minute and then add tomatoes. 

Step 5

Add mixed vegetables and spices. Mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 6

Drain the water from the rice and add the soaked rice to the pan.

Step 7

Add water and lime juice and stir gently. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to low. Cook undisturbed for 20-25 minutes until the rice is cooked.

Step 9

Turn off the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. Serve hot.
