A medley of lip-smacking flavours and textures, Jhalmuri is a popular street side snack in the Eastern states of India. Here's how to make this savoury snack at home.
80 g muri or puffed rice, 20 g chanachur, ½ tsp roasted garam masala, ¼ tsp black salt, 10 g boiled matar dal, 10 g sprouted chana, 15 g peanuts, 15 g boiled potatoes, 8 g coconut, 5 g oil from green-mango pickle, 3 g mustard oil, 10 g onions, 10 g tomatoes, 10 g cucumbers, 2 green chilly, 3 tbsp coriander leaves, and 5 g lime juice.
Chop the boiled potato, tomato, onion, cucumber, coriander leaves and green chilly into small cubes. Keep the coconut chunks whole.
In a mixing bowl add the muri followed by the chanachur, peanuts, sprouts and lentils and mix well.
Add the chopped accoutrements next followed by the lime juice, roasted garam masala, black salt, pickle oil and mustard oil and mix it in with the puffed rice.
Serve immediately before the crispiness of the puffed rice is compromised. Garnish with coriander leaves and a whole green chilly.
