Masala chai is a warm, spiced tea that blends black tea with aromatic spices like cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Rich, comforting, and invigorating, it’s the perfect beverage to enjoy any time of day. This recipe gives you a perfectly balanced chai with the right amount of spice and warmth.
1 cup water 1 cup milk 2 tsp black tea leaves 2-3 cardamom pods, crushed 1 small cinnamon stick 2-3 cloves A small piece of fresh ginger 1-2 black peppercorns Sugar
In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil over medium heat. Add the crushed cardamom pods, cinnamon stick, cloves, grated ginger, and peppercorns.
Let the spices simmer in the water for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavours to release into the water.
Add the tea leaves to the spiced water. Let it brew for 1-2 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
Pour in 1 cup of milk and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for another 2-3 minutes, letting the tea and spices infuse the milk.
Add sugar according to your taste and stir until dissolved. Once the chai reaches your desired strength, strain it into cups to remove the spices and tea leaves.
Pour the hot, fragrant Masala Chai into cups and enjoy.
