Aloo tikkis are crispy, golden patties made from spiced mashed potatoes, popular as a street food and snack in India. Shallow-fried to perfection, they boast of a crunchy exterior and a soft, flavourful interior, often served with chutneys or as part of chaats.
4 large potatoes 1/2 cup bread crumbs 2 green chillies 1 tsp ginger 1 tsp cumin powder 1/2 tsp garam masala 1/2 tsp red chilli powder 1/4 tsp turmeric powder Fresh coriander leaves, chopped Oil Salt
Peel and mash the boiled potatoes in a large mixing bowl until smooth and free of lumps. Add the green chilies, grated ginger, cumin powder, garam masala, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt to the mashed potatoes.
Add the breadcrumbs to the mixture and mix again. Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into round, flat tikkis (patties).
Heat a little oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
Place the tikkis in the pan and cook them until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Cook in batches if necessary, adding more oil as needed. Serve the aloo tikkis hot with chutney, yoghurt, or as a part of a chaat dish.
