Veg momos, a beloved street food, are dumplings filled with seasoned vegetables commonly enjoyed in India and Tibet. This recipe guides you to make tender, flavourful momos from scratch with easy folding techniques.
1 cup all-purpose flour ½ tsp oil ¼ tsp salt 2-3 tbsp water 1 tbsp oil 2 small spring onions, finely chopped ½ tsp chopped garlic 1½ cups mixed vegetables (cabbage, carrot, beans, capsicum) ½ cup mushrooms (optional) 1 tsp soy sauce ½ tsp black pepper Salt to taste
Mix flour, salt, and oil in a bowl, then add water to make a firm dough.
Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes. Heat oil in a pan, add garlic and spring onion whites, and sauté for 10-15 seconds.
Add chopped vegetables and stir-fry on medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes.
Add soy sauce, black pepper, salt, stir-fry for 2 more minutes, then turn off the heat.
Roll small dough balls into circles, place filling in the center, and pleat edges to seal.
Steam momos for 5-6 minutes until translucent. Serve hot with a spicy sauce.
