Homemade Sesame Energy Bars: A Kid-Friendly Healthy Snack

These sugar-free energy bars, loaded with the goodness of sesame and jaggery, are the ultimate snack bars to get children to eat more superfoods. Make a large batch of these sweet treats and store in an air-tight container to enjoy with a glass of milk or your cup of evening chai.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups dates, soaked 2 tablespoons chia seeds, soaked 2 + 2 tablespoons sesame seeds ¼ cup pumpkin seeds 2 tablespoons yellow moong dal snack 1 tablespoon puffed rice 2 tablespoons oats, toasted 2 tablespoons cocoa powder 1 tablespoon orange zest 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder 2 tablespoons jaggery powder 2 + 2 tablespoons ghee 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ¼ cup tahini paste 1 pinch salt

STEP 1

Strain the dates from hot water and set aside, while you toast the pumpkin and sesame seeds, as well as puffed rice in a dry pan.

STEP 2

Combine the tahini, two tablespoons of ghee, cocoa and jaggery powder in a pan to melt and turn slightly runny.

STEP 3

Combine the toasted ingredients with the remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl, followed by the addition of the chopped dates and chia seeds.

STEP 4

Add the melted wet mixture to this and use a spoon to combine thoroughly before transferring to a greased baking tray and spreading into an even layer.

STEP 5

Sprinkle more sesame seeds on top and allow it to set in the fridge for 2-3 hours before slicing into bars of your desired size.
