Homemade Murukku (Chakli) In Just 5 Easy Steps

Chakli is a very popular Indian savoury snack which is mostly spiral in shape or sometimes long like sticks. Chakli is also known by other names like  Chakri in Gujarati or Murukku in South Indian households. Here is how to make chakali at home. 

Ingredients

2 cups rice flour 2 cups urad dal ½ tsp Asafoetida 2 tsp melted butter see notes 2 tsp black sesame seeds 2 tsp cumin seeds ½ tsp black pepper powder ¼ tsp dry mango powder/amchoor optional Water Salt to taste Oil 

Step 1

Take rice flour, urad dal black, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, black pepper powder, drizzle the melted butter and make a dough.

Step 2

Take the chakli maker and fill it with dough. Make sure it is full enough to pass smoothly. 

Step 3

Take a piece of butter paper and start shaping the chakli on it. Using a piece of butter paper is better for shaping it properly.

Step 4

Now in a kadhai heat some oil, and then transfer the shaped chakali onto the heated oil to fry.

Step 5

Fry them on medium heat until golden brown, transfer them to tissue paper and let the oil drain.
