There is nothing like homemade brandy on a cold winter’s night. This easy recipe brings all the warm, spicy, sweet flavours to your glass. It takes a little time but the result is a smooth, comforting brandy perfect for winter nights or as a gift.
500ml vodka or unflavoured alcohol 1 cup sugar 2 cups water 1 large cinnamon stick 4 cloves 1 vanilla bean (split open) 1 lemon peel (only the yellow part, no pith) ¼ cup raisins
Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat until sugar dissolves, then let cool.
Add vodka, cinnamon sticks, cloves, vanilla beans, lemon peels, and raisins to a clean glass jar.
Pour in the cooled sugar syrup. Stir well to combine.
Seal the jar and store it in a dark, cool place for at least 2 weeks. Shake the jar every few days.
After 2 weeks (or longer for more flavour), strain and bottle your brandy.
Drink straight or in warm cocktails.
