Gujiya is a traditional sweet that completes the colourful celebration of Holi. While it can feature a variety of fillings, khoya or mawa mix is the popular choice. It is rich in flavour and tastes delicious. Here is how to make the filling and prepare lip-smacking gujiya for the festival.
¼ cup ghee ½ cup powdered sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder ½ cup khoya Ghee for frying Water according to need ¼ cup chopped dry fruits
In a hot kadhai, add khoya and roast it until it fills your entire kitchen with its sweet aroma. Keep stirring while roasting.
Mix khoya with powdered sugar, cardamom powder, and nuts. Use your hands to combine everything into a sweet mixture.
Knead the dough for gujiya using all-purpose flour, water, and ghee. Allow it to rest for at least 20-30 minutes before you start making gujiya.
Roll lemon-sized dough balls and fill them with a moderate amount of khoya filling. Seal the edges with water and maida mixture.
Cover gujiya with a soft cloth and allow them to rest for a while. After 30 minutes, deep fry them in hot oil or ghee.
Keep gujiya on a tray to allow excess ghee to separate and store them in an airtight container. Your sweet dish is ready to be relished.
