Apart from being an integral part of Indian cooking, turmeric is also laced with various medicinal properties. Here are some most popular turmeric varieties of India.

Lakadong

Belonging to the Lakadong village of Meghalaya, it is said to be the world’s best turmeric due to its high concentration of curcumin.

Amba Haldi

Also known as mango ginger turmeric, this turmeric variety is densely available in West Bengal.

Kasturi Manjal

This wild turmeric is widely used as a cosmetic herb in South Asia and nearby regions.

Erode

This turmeric is found in the Erode region of Tamil Nadu which contains about 2.5 to 4.5% of curcumin.

Alleppey

Alleppey turmeric from Kerala contains about 5% of curcumin which makes it ideal for several homemade remedies and Ayurvedic medicines.

Madras

This pale-yellow turmeric has a 3.5% of curcumin and is beneficial for managing blood sugar level.
