Made with urad dal, refined flour and spices, this flavourful delight is perfect to indulge after breaking the fast. Here is an easy recipe to make dal kachori for Hartalika Teej:

1 cup split black gram (soaked, drained and coarsely grinded) 3 cups refined flour 2 green chillies, finely chopped 1 inch ginger, finely chopped 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped a pinch of asafoetida 1 tsp chaat masala 1 tsp cumin seeds, coarsely powdered Salt to taste Oil to deep fry

Take a little oil in a frying pan, add asafoetida, finely chopped green chillies, ginger, coriander leaves, chaat masala and coarsely ground cumin seeds.

Mix well and add salt to taste. Add ground gram. Mix again. Take off the heat. Knead the refined flour with oil, salt and water to make a stiff dough.

Make small balls of the dough. Flatten slightly and stuff a teaspoon of the dal mixture. Shape into a ball and roll into 3” discs.

Heat oil and fry each kachori till crisp and golden. Serve hot with any pickle of your choice.
