Halloween is just around the corner, and if you are thinking of making something that will serve as your party dessert. To impress everyone, try making apple pie and serving it with vanilla ice cream.
For the crust: 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter 2-3 tablespoons ice water
For the filling: 4-5 apples 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon butter 1 egg 1 tablespoon sugar
Whisk together flour, butter, and salt. Let it sit.
Combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Pour the apple filling into the pie crust. Dot with butter pieces.
Top the pie with the remaining dough.
Brush the top crust with beaten egg and cut slits.
Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce heat to 375°F (190°C) and bake for another 30-40 minutes.
Let the pie cool completely before serving.
