This Gurpurab, you cannot skip making langar wali dal at home. It is the most delicious and comforting recipe you can enjoy in this weather. It pairs well with steamed rice. Here is a recipe by Ranveer Brar that you can follow.
For Dal 1½ cup soaked sabut urad dal ½ cup chana dal 4- 4 ½ cups water Salt to taste ½ tsp turmeric powder ½ tsp red chilli powder ½ inch ginger, chopped 3-4 garlic, crushed 1 bay leaf
For Tempering 2 tbsp ghee 1 tbsp oil 1 tsp cumin seeds 1-inch ginger 3-4 garlic cloves, crushed 2-3 green chillies, coarsely ground 3 medium onions, sliced ¼ turmeric powder 1 tsp coriander powder 1 tsp red chilli powder 1 small tomato 1 tbsp coriander leaves
Wash and rinse dal. Pressure cook it with red chilli powder, ginger, garlic, salt, and bay leaf.
Heat ghee in a pan and saute cumin seeds, green chillies, garlic, and ginger.
Add onions and cook them until they are slightly brown.
Add tomatoes and cook them with a little bit of salt.
Add the remaining spices to the pan. Roast the spices until they release oil.
Add cooked dal to the pan and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Serve it with the garnish of coriander leaves.
