Growing your own set of fresh herbs for everyday use in your kitchen is an underrated pleasure that offers unmatched flavour and nutrition. When it comes to greens like mint, following a few simple steps can yield satisfying results and an abundance of mint to use in chutneys or salads.

HEALTHY SPRIG

Begin with healthy plants from a nursery or garden centre with no signs of disease or pests.

PROPER PLANTING

When planting mint, dig a hole slightly larger than the root surface area of the plant and place it in the ground at the same depth it was in the previous container.

WATER REGULARLY

Mint likes consistently moist soil, so water it regularly especially during dry periods.

APPLY MULCH

Applying a layer of mulch around the base of mint plants helps retain soil moisture and suppresses weed growth.

REGULAR PRUNING

Regular pruning not only encourages bushy growth but also helps control the spread of mint, which can be quite invasive.

HARVEST ON TIME

Snip off leaves as needed, but avoid removing more than one-third of the plant at a time to ensure healthy growth.
