The increasingly popular warm dessert, which gets its name from creating its own sauce under the batter when baking, is easy and decadent. Recreate this moist chocolate cake to enjoy with fresh strawberries and whipped cream.

1 cup all-purpose flour 1/3 cup refined sugar ¼ + ¼ cup dark cocoa powder 2.5 teaspoons baking powder ½ cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 egg 5 tablespoons melted butter 1 tablespoon coffee powder 2 tablespoons rum 1 cup brown sugar 1 + ¼ cups boiling water 1 pinch salt

Preheat your oven to 170°C while you combine the flour, one portion of cocoa powder, baking powder and coffee in a mixing bowl.

Combine the milk, vanilla, egg, rum and refined sugar thoroughly before pouring into the dry mixture to make a batter.

Transfer the batter to a greased baking dish while you mix the remaining cocoa powder with the brown sugar in a dry bowl.

Sprinkle the mixture over the batter and pour the water over this to cover completely on top.

Bake for 30 minutes after increasing the temperature to 180°C until the batter rises to form a fluffy top. Serve hot.
