Upon entering a new year, we are always hopeful of something bigger and better. To attract good fortune, here’s what different cultures eat on New Year’s eve.
While eating greens is super healthy, it is financially-beneficial too. The black-eyed peas are related to pennies, green peas for dollars and cornbread for gold in US.
While rice holds religious essence in many Indian cultures, rice and beans is a good luck combo in Latin countries. Moreover, swelled up barley, oats etc. also signify abundance.
Strangely enough, pork is considered a harbinger of growth and progress in Cuban culture. From pork chops to sandwiches, several meaty delights are prepared for New Year.
Fish scales in wallets signify abundance in German culture while Japanese eat fish for good luck and shrimps for a prosperous New Year.
Greeks splutter pomegranate seeds on New Year as they are symbolic of fertility and abundance. Filipinos eat round fruits while Mexicans and Spanish eat 12 grapes for each month of the year.
