Girmit: Karnataka's Spicy, Tangy and Crunchy Bhel

Girmit is a popular street food dish from North Karnataka. It consists of spicy puffed rice mixed with various chutneys, vegetables, and seasonings, creating a flavorful and crunchy snack.

Ingredients 

2 cups puffed rice ½ cup chopped onions ¼ cup chopped tomatoes ¼ cup roasted peanuts 2-3 tbsp sev (thin gram flour noodles) 2-3 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped 1 tsp mustard seeds ½ tsp turmeric powder A pinch of asafoetida (hing) 1-2 tbsp oil Salt to taste  Lemon juice for garnish

Step 1 

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and asafoetida. Let them splutter. Add chopped onions, green chilies, and sauté until onions turn translucent.

Step 2

Stir in turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, and cook until they soften. Add puffed rice, roasted peanuts, and mix well.

Step 3

Remove from heat, add sev, chopped coriander leaves, and salt. Mix thoroughly.

Step 4

Garnish with lemon juice and serve the Girmit immediately for a crunchy and spicy snack.
