This spicy and flavourful street food is prepared from puffed rice along with garlic, onions, tamarind and curry leaves. Here is an easy recipe to make this North Karnataka snack at home.

4 cups puffed rice, 2 onions, 4 green chillies, 1 tomato, 2 tbsp tamarind pulp, 1 tbsp jaggery powder, 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, ¼ tsp asafoetida, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp chilli powder, 1 cup roasted chana dal powder, 1/2 tsp hot water, 1 tbsp roasted peanuts, 1 tsp coriander leaves, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp oil, salt to taste, sev for garnish

In a kadhai, heat oil and add mustard and cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chillies and onion. Saute for a minute and add haldi, chilli powder, salt and hing.

Saute for a few seconds and then add the tamarind pulp along with the jaggery powder. Pour in ½ cup of hot water and stir. Cook for 2 minutes and set aside.

In a bowl, combine puffed rice with this mixture. Add the powdered chana dal, salt, onion, tomato, coriander leaves and peanuts. Mix well and garnish with sev and enjoy.
