Sheera is a popular dessert in Maharashtra and is eaten at breakfast or as a dessert. It is made from roasted semolina, ghee, and sugar. The traditional sweet dish is often prepared during festivals, pujas, or special occasions. It is a favourite during Ganesh Chaturthi.
1 cup semolina (rava/suji) 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup ghee 2 cups water or milk 1/4 cup chopped cashews and raisins 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
Heat ghee in a pan. Add semolina and roast until golden brown and aromatic. Stir continuously to avoid burning.
In another pan, heat water or milk. Once the semolina is roasted, carefully add the hot liquid to the pan, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
Cook the mixture on low flame until the semolina absorbs the liquid and becomes soft.
Add sugar and stir until it dissolves completely. Stir in the cardamom powder.
Add chopped cashews and raisins and cook for a few more minutes.
