A simple preparation of chickpeas tossed in a classic South Indian tempering, this sundal is one of the traditional dishes prepared in Tamil Nadu to celebrate the welcoming of Lord Ganesha.

2 cups cooked chickpeas 3 green chillies, chopped 7-8 curry leaves 1 teaspoon mustard seeds ¼ cup freshly grated coconut 1 tablespoon coconut oil 1 pinch asafoetida Salt, to taste

Heat the oil in a pan and temper everything but the chickpeas and coconut.

Once the mustard seeds and curry leaves begin to splutter, toss in the cooked chickpeas and mix well.

Season with salt and mix thoroughly before turning off the heat and sprinkling lots of fresh coconut. Serve warm.
