Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra is an all-out affair and naturally the state has some of its own culinary favourites for the festival. Here are 10 you can try to celebrate the Maharashtrian way.
Puran Poli is a sweet flatbread made from chana dal, jaggery, and whole wheat flour. It's delicious and often enjoyed with a dollop of ghee.
These are steamed modaks, a healthier alternative to the fried ones. They have the same coconut and jaggery filling but are softer and lighter.
Shrikhand is a creamy dessert made from strained yoghurt, sugar, and saffron garnished with nuts, making it a rich and delightful treat.
This lightly spiced and tempered dal is made with chana dal stock, spices, and coconut and is eaten with puran poli.

Varan Bhaat is dal and rice often used as a bhog. The dal is made with a mix of moong dal and arhar dal along with curry leaves, grated coconut and cumin seeds.
